 March 1993 Mondeo (Mk I) range of 4 dr saloons and 5 dr hatchbacks launched. Base, LX and GLX models available with 1.6i, 16v, 90 bhp engines. LX and GLX models also available with 1.8i, 16v, 115 bhp engines. Si and Ghia models have the 2.0i, 16v, 136 bhp engine and this is also available for the GLX. Mechanical specification: 5-speed gearbox; variable rate PAS; independent suspension (MacPherson struts front, 4 link system at rear); disc/drum brakes (ABS standard on 2.0i Si and Ghia, optional on other models). 2.0i Si and Ghia have optional tracion control (TCS) and adaptive damping (ADS). June 1997 Special 1.8i 'Verona' hatchback reintroduced. August 1997 2.5i, 24v, V6 (170 bhp) ST-24 hatchback launched with Rally Sport Appearance Pack. Revisions: air conditioning in place of sunroof on Ghia V6 and Si V6 models; 16" 12-spoke alloy wheels on Si V6. Ford Team Mondeo sweeps the board in 2000 BTCC - the last year of the Super Touring format - winning manufacturer's title, team title and driver's title (see below).
